Coston leads the way for St. Paul boys in 5A

Eric Coston from St. Paul won his second Louisiana high school cross country championship title on Tuesday at Natchitoches.

Coston ran 15:19.5 for three miles and won the Class 5A boys race by 13 seconds. He also led his team to the victory (62 points). RESULTS

St. Joseph’s edged Mandeville 40-44 on the girls side. St. Joseph’s got a boost from its top trio, which went 4-5-6. Mandeville freshman Charley Chehardy won the race in 18:46.1.

Belle Chasse squeaked past St. Michael 90-92 for the boys team title in the Class 4A race. Junior Key Alfred from Carencro won the individual medal in 16:06.7. Eighth grader Caroline Lindsay of Vanderbilt Catholic won the girls race in 19:38.1 as she led her team to the championship.

Lucas Marcello won the Class 3A boys race (16:47.2) and was one of four Ed Douglas White Catholic runners in the top six as the Cardinals cruised with 24 points. Freshman Carolyn McGinnis of Lusher Charter ran 19:03.6 to win the girls race. Academy of Sacred Heart won the team prize with 52 points.

On Monday, the Episcopal boys had five of the top six in the Class 2A meet and put a low score of 19 on the board. Junior Graham Frazier ran 16:00.1 for the win.

Lakeside senior Alissa Landers ran 18:15.1 for a 45-second victory in the 2A girls race. Holy Savior Menard Central packed 5-6-7 together on the way to a 42-point total and team championship.

Gabe Poulin from Cedar Creek won the Class 1A boys race in 16:13.7, but right behind him were three members of the victorious St. Martin’s Episcopal team. Senior Kirsten Landry from Ascension Episcopal won the girls race in 18:42.9. Ascension Catholic took the team title with 48 points.

Episcopal of Acadiana swept the Class B team titles. Nathan Anderson of Choudrant (16:23.9) and Samantha Withers of E of A (19:43.7) were the individual winners.

Randy Carter of Jehoveh-Jireh Christian ran 16:24.4 and seventh grader Zoe Free of Plainview ran 22:25.2 to collect the Class C wins. Plainview won the girls title with 44 points and Grand Isle’s boys won with 48 points.
